County Watch Dog Report – Louis Macri
As usual, we received a clear and concise report on the activities of our local officials. Of particular note was the repeal of all UN Agenda 21 activities and to check all grants for any Agenda 21 requirements.
Federal Review – Bill Bigelow
Bill called our attention to the National Defense Appropriation Act which allows the military to arrest and detain without formal charges; which is in direct conflict with our Bill of Rights. Spoke also, on the free contraception coverage which must be provided by all employers. This would be in conflict with many employers religious beliefs and is also unconstitutional.
Member Discussion
Discussed needing more presence at voting locations and getting more organized at what we were to do.
Bill Folchi, Chairman of the REC, spoke to us about activating the voters.
An idea came up to have a table at the Charlotte County Fair and it was agreed by all to do it.
Guest Speaker – Ron DeSantis, Author of Dreams of our Fathers
Interesting speaker telling us his thoughts on our president and how he views his presidency to his predecessors’ accomplishments. He then told us how his book compares to the founding fathers intent and the disparity today.
He followed his talk with a brief discussion with the members.
Meeting adjourned.

General Meeting Minutes
October 6, 2011
Mission Statement: is to attract, educate, organize and mobilize our fellow citizens to secure public policy consistent with our three core values Free Markets, Limited Government, and Fiscal and Individual Responsibility.
The regular monthly meeting of the Punta Gorda Tea Party was held on October 6, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Charlotte Park Civic Association, Punta Gorda, Florida. Approximately 90 people were present. Ten of those present were first time attendees hailing from Michigan, Maryland, Vermont, New York, New Jersey and California.
President Paula Schaff announced she would call the business meeting to order after the guest speakers were finished.
Invocation: Rev. Fred Cowardin
Pledge of Allegiance: Steven Carroll
President Paula Schaff introduced John Perez, candidate for County Property Appraiser.
Mr. Perez opened by telling us he is an ardent fan of the Boston Red Socks and the New England Patriots. He is, however, a native of Florida and has a passion for Charlotte County. He moved to Charlotte County four years ago. He serves on the State Tourism Board, Board Directors of Visit Florida, Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, Charlotte County Boys and Girls Club, Graduate of Charlotte County Citizens Police Academy, class president for the Leadership Charlotte Class as well as several more organizations.
He has worked in the hotel industry for the past twenty five years and feels this is pertinent training for the ‘customer service’ position of Property Appraiser. He would have the office open every day for residents to come in with issues, get property value figures to commissioners in a timely manner, and always listen respectfully to residents. He followed his remarks answering questions from floor.
Commissioner Bob Starr introduced Ed Pope, who is running for County Sheriff.
Mr. Pope has retired from the Florida Highway Patrol in order to campaign full time for the position of Charlotte County Sheriff. He comes to us from New York. His goals are to confront the illegal drugs and the increase in property thefts that continue to take over this community. As Charlotte County Sheriff he will eliminate wasteful spending and work with county commissioners to decrease sheriff’s budget.
His talk was followed by a brisk question and answer.
President Paula Schaff called the meeting to order.
Roll Call: Present: Paula Schaff, President ; Lou Macri, Vice President; Bill Bigelow, Treasurer; Steven Carroll, Joe Dlugosz and Mark Zehr Absent: Michael Metyk, MD
President Schaff asked for motion to approve of September 1, 2011 minutes as posted on web site.
Motion received, seconded, and approved by members.
Treasurer’s report by Bill Bigelow was read, motioned, seconded and accepted.

Plus deposits - 283.25
Less expenses - 331.85
Ending Balance - $2048.57 plus gold coin valued at $830.00
President Schaff introduced Bill Folchi, Chairman REC.
Bill’s remarks were prompted by the Federal Review given by Bill Bigelow last meeting. It was a very comprehensive report revealing the deteriorating state of our country with criminals in charge. Asking what are republicans doing about it?
Bill stated the REC has 22 committees of 5-6 people each working on our efforts to take back the country in 2012.
Lou Macri is heading a committee to build a party platform based on ending subsidies, 10% cut in discretionary spending, border protection and repeal Obama care.
Barry Jollett is heading up a welcome program to meet and greet new republican voters.
Getting a ‘ voter switch’ program to sign up new republicans.
These are a few of the things the Charlotte County Republican Executive Committee is working on to Take Our Country Back! In 2012.
Membership Drive
Steven Carroll rallied the members present for each member to bring just two people who they know who are angry at what is going on today and they will become happy Tea Party Members.
Announcements
President Schaff reported good gathering for Stand with Israel on Saturday night, Oct. 1.
November meeting speakers will be John Chambers of Asset Preservation Group – and Tammy Hall of Cape Coral who is a potential candidate for representative.
Connie Macri reported on the garage sale taking place on Nov. 12. Says things are under control with volunteers, and needed tables of which two were volunteered. If anyone needs help with donations- call.
Discussed having Christmas Party in December. It appeared more people wanted a something on the weekend rather than a different night during the week. We will work on a pot luck event. Paula will put date in newsletter.
December meeting speakers will be Ken Roberson, state representative and Tricia Duffy, Charlotte County Commissioner.
January meeting will include election of board members. Right now we will be electing two. If you are interested – send Paula an e-mail with a photo, short profile and a statement on the skills you bring to the Board as well as why you want to serve.
Freedom of Speech – Mark Zehr
Mark spoke to us briefly on net neutrality bill and what a disaster it is. It is control of the internet. He encouraged us to go to FCC.Gov and lodge a complaint.
County Watchdog – Lou Macri
The county budget was reduced to $531,493,449 from $749,000,000 last year. This is misleading as they drew from the reserves, which may give us a substantial increase next year. County also plan to reduce the number of MSBU’s.
The board approved changes in the fire arms ordinance and pain management clinics to coordinate with state ordinances.
There are funding issues acquiring access to right of ways on the Burnt Store Road project.
Federal Review – Bill Bigelow
Bill outdid himself this week with a really comprehensive and impressive report on the Federal Expenditures. Our country’s economy is deteriorating rapidly and the government shows no interest in dealing with it. Bill’s report included ‘ Fast and Furious’, the Solyndra affair, and Flash. Once posted, we will notify you and you can go to the Federal Watchdog tab and read this report.
50/50 drawing was won by Don with ticket#557012. Don kindly donated his $59.00 winnings to the Tea Party. Thank you, Don.

County & Local Watchdogs
Lou Macri spoke about some notable doings by our county commissioners. Commissioners have appointed Ray Sandrock to investigate the Gasparilla Construction issue. Ray then asked the Clerk of Court to perform the investigation. Reported on commissioner's purchase of 1.9 acres in Charlotte Harbor for $213,000.00 from Bank of America and will spend another $50,000.00 to demolish a house on it. Also, County states they plan to develop the 1.9 acres site, and sell the property. Minutes of the County Commissioner Meeting were e-mailed to members.
Commissioner Bob Starr spoke after Lou further explaining that he was against this purchase as it took $12,000.00 off the tax rolls. County should not purchase property it has no immediate need for.
State Watchdogs:
Mike Metyk spoke briefly complimenting members and especially Bill Folchi for their combined efforts to work together to remove President Obama from office in 2012.
Federal Watchdogs:
Bill Bigelow spoke to us on the deplorable conditions coming from Washington. Plain tyranny is being enacted upon the citizens of the United States. The new EPA regulations will cripple business and there will be no jobs. The EPA will stop all coal use in this country.
Member Discussion
President Schaff led a discussion on the Mock Election we attended on August 30, 2011. The Mock Election was led by Keith Flaugh of Goooh. The members were fairly evenly split on pro or con for us going further with this process. We had thirty in attendance for the training session and not all were at the General Meeting. When the next e-mail goes out to the members, we will get more feedback on the results before how to move forward. It was a good experience and fun to do. We will be looking at other training also to find the best help for us to better 'vet' the candidates.
